Why does the Bagua most people use only have eight sides when the other systems are based on twelve? There are twelve Animal Years, twelve meridians, twelve periods of midday and midnight, which physicians analyze through the patient’s twelve pulses. That is because the Emperor only allowed the common people to use the eight part map shaped like a tortoise shell because it would keep his subjects in their place. That was the bagua that came to the west after the cultural revolution destroyed their institutes of higher learning. Knowledge is power so we are sharing the system used in the Royal Court and by western geomancers. It is remarkably effective for analyzing space and making precise corrections. Since bagua means eight parts we call this the Euro-Bagua, or the Terra Map.
