Reclaiming Astrology From the Patriarchy
A Talk with Drs. Ralph & Lahni DeAmicis
The Zodiac is humanity’s oldest teaching tool, an unchanging blackboard that the elders once used to teach the young how to find food by adjusting to natures cycles. The original symbols, chosen by the Egyptians, reflected the balance of nature, and this produced a society where men and women had equal rights. Where did this go wrong? It happened because Astrology, like celestial navigation, is based on the geometry of the solar system as seen from Earth. Twenty-five hundred years ago, the highly patriarchal Greeks broke that geometry to favor men, and it took western society off course.
The Greeks then taught their astrology to the Romans, who broke the geometry even more and then rebranded the symbols of the Zodiac. The early Roman priests changed the Zodiac into a propaganda tool that promoted the Empire and their new male dominated Catholic church. They changed all but one of the feminine Signs, while debating whether women had souls. At the time, the largest and wealthiest temple in the Roman Forum was dedicated to Venus, and the priests wanted her money.
Arranging a Speech
We began speaking to groups in the mid-1990's, maintaining a busy seminar schedule until 2005 that included running two certificate programs on Feng Shui and Herbology, and a Doctoral mentor program. After that we continued speaking just a few times a year so we could focus on our writing, publishing, consulting and television shows.
This is the first talk that we are truly excited about in many years. It comes from our research in sacred geometry and experience as practitioners. We are ecstatic that thanks to technology, aka Zoom, we can share it with groups all over the world without having to travel there.
We will adapt the length of the talk to your needs, because while we extensive material, the core knowledge is elegantly simple. The hard part is getting past the years of programming that colors our thinking.
For the next fifteen hundred years the practice of Astrology was thoroughly screwed up. And then, in the early twentieth century a group of writers and psychics made it even worse. They were so steeped in that patriarchy, and confused by the broken geometry, that they smashed the system into pieces. As a result, astrology further relegated women to disempowered societal roles, where they would get little credit for their efforts.
For us to use this broken, patriarchal system today when eighty percent of astrologers, and their clients, are women is nonsensical. By restoring the geometry and invoking the true, balanced symbols, we can improve people’s self-image and society’s balance. Astrology is an ancient system that evolves with its culture. So, there is no reason we cannot hit the reset, toss out these illogical, unbalanced changes, and restore the Goddess to her proper ascendancy. We know who broke the system, how they broke it and why they did that. Restoring it to its original elegant and graceful design is easier than you might think.
